The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a points-tested permanent visa for skilled
workers who are not sponsored by employers, state or territory governments, or family
members.
To apply, you must:
- Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.
- Receive an invitation to apply from the Department of Home Affairs.
- Submit your visa application within 60 days of receiving the invitation.
This visa allows you to:
- Live and work in Australia permanently.
- Include eligible family members.
- Access Medicare and apply for citizenship (if eligible).
Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
The Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) is a points-tested permanent visa for skilled
workers who are nominated by a state or territory government in Australia.
To apply, you must:
- Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.
- Be nominated by an Australian state or territory government.
- Receive an invitation to apply and lodge your visa application within 60 days.
This visa allows you to:
- Live and work in Australia permanently.
- Access Medicare and apply for citizenship (if eligible).
- Include eligible family members in your application.
Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 489)
The Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 489) allows skilled workers to live and work
in a regional area of Australia for up to four years.
To apply, you must:
- Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Skill Select.
- Receive an invitation to apply from the Department of Home Affairs.
- Be nominated by a state or territory government OR sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated regional area.
- Apply within 60 days of receiving the invitation.
This visa allows you to:
- Live, work, and study in a regional area.
- Include eligible family members.
- Apply for permanent residency later through the Skilled Regional (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 887).
Graduate Temporary Visa (Subclass 485)
The Graduate Temporary Visa (Subclass 485) allows international students who have
completed at least 2 years of study in Australia to live, work, and study temporarily after
graduation.
