Employee Sponsored Visas
Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) and Skills in Demand Visa (Subclass 482)
The Subclass 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, introduced in 2018,
enables Australian employers to sponsor skilled overseas workers for up to four
years to address skill shortages. It includes Short-term, Medium-term, and Labour
Agreement streams, with pathways to permanent residency for some. The Skills
in Demand visa (updated Subclass 482, 2024–2025) enhances flexibility with Core
Skills, Specialist Skills, and Essential Skills streams, offering easier employer
changes, work experience-based eligibility, and faster permanent residency
pathways. Employers must meet sponsorship and nomination requirements.
Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa (Subclass 186)
The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa (Subclass 186) is a permanent
residency visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian employer. It
includes the Direct Entry stream for workers with relevant skills and
qualifications, and the Temporary Residence Transition stream for Subclass 482
visa holders who have worked for their employer for at least 2–3 years. Applicants
must meet occupation, skills, and English language requirements.
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Visa (Subclass 187)
The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (Subclass 187) is a
permanent residency visa for skilled workers nominated by employers in regional
Australia. It includes the Temporary Residence Transition stream for Subclass 482
or 457 visa holders who have worked for their employer for 2–3 years. The Direct
Entry stream closed to new applications in November 2019, replaced by the
Subclass 494 visa. Applicants must meet skills, English language, and age
requirements (under 45, with exemptions). The visa remains valid for existing
holders and transitional applicants.
Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 494)
The Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 494) is a
provisional visa allowing skilled workers to live and work in regional Australia for
up to 5 years. Sponsored by an approved employer, it targets occupations on the
relevant skilled occupation lists. Applicants must be under 45, meet skills, and
English language requirements. It offers a pathway to permanent residency.
Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa (Subclass 400)
The Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) Visa (Subclass 400) allows highly
specialized workers to perform short-term, non-ongoing work in Australia for up
to 3 months (or 6 months in exceptional cases). It is designed for individuals with
specialised skills, knowledge, or experience not readily available in Australia, who
are invited by an organisation to complete specific tasks. Applicants must
demonstrate their expertise and have a job or task offer. No employer
sponsorship is required, but the work must not adversely affect Australian
workers.
Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408)
The Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408) allows individuals to work or
participate in specific activities in Australia for up to 4 years, depending on the
stream. It covers activities such as cultural or social events, research, religious
work, sporting events, or roles in the entertainment industry. Key streams include
Invited Participant (short-term events), Australian Government Endorsed Events,
Entertainment, and Special Program. Applicants need a sponsor or supporter,
relevant skills, and must meet health and character requirements. No permanent
residency pathway is available.
Training Visa (Subclass 407)
The Training Visa (subclass 407) is designed for individuals who want to develop
their skills through structured workplace-based training in Australia. It’s ideal for
those looking to enhance their professional expertise, meet occupational
registration requirements, or build on academic knowledge. This temporary visa
provides valuable hands-on experience and international exposure in your field of
study or occupation.
